Students dazzle at Nights of Music (PHOTOS)
Last week, students from across the district came together for a two-night special event at the Abbotsford Arts Centre to showcase a collection of their musical performances perfected over the year. In collaboration with the Abbotsford Music Educators' Association (AMEA), Nights of Music is a hallmark spring event for elementary, middle, and secondary students - and their families. Performances included concert band, jazz band, handbells, guitar groups, vocal jazz, and more. These events marked the first time that students were able to demonstrate their musical talents to a live audience in over two years.
"Music is a key element of providing our students with a well-rounded education," said Trustee Freddy Latham, who was in attendance. "After years of our schools having to find new and innovative ways to navigate the pandemic safely, it was a joy to see our students back on stage, under the bright lights, performing for a live audience."
This annual event is made possible by the dedicated educators and staff throughout the district, and students for their commitment to practicing their musical talents. Over 20 musical ensembles brought their passion, joy and energy into a well-tuned performance. For families or friends unable to make the events, Tuesday's performance and Thursday's performance were livestreamed and archived on the district's YouTube account.
A special thank you is extended to the Abbotsford Music Educators' Association for leading the Nights of Music events for over 20 years.
