Presentations
Jackson Elementary
Accompanied by teacher Nadia Lee, students in grade 5 at Jackson Elementary shared their exploration of Canadian Issues and Governance from the Grade 5 Social Studies curriculum. Focusing on the Big Idea that “Immigration and multiculturalism continue to shape Canadian society and identity,” they presented their Immigration Projects. Each student interviewed a family member, relative, or teacher about their journey to Canada, exploring the push and pull factors, challenges, and hardships.
Sandy Hill Elementary
For the past three years, Grade 1 students at Jackson Elementary have benefited from the Paws 4 Stories program, a Therapy Dog Community Service that promotes reading skills. Jackie Lepp and her therapy dog, Kona, from St. John’s Ambulance, visited the class weekly to listen to the students read. Kona’s calming presence helped the children improve their reading skills, and special needs students from other classes also enjoyed visiting with Kona. Teacher Jill Roberts, Principal Cathy Erickson, Vice-Principal Sharon Phillips, volunteer Jackie Lepp, and Kona accompanied four Grade 1 students for this presentation.
Yale Secondary School Senior Boys Rugby Team – Tier 2 Provincial Championship
Principal Rob Sloboda and Head Coach Greg Byron accompanied a few of the key grade 12 senior players to talk about the Senior Boys Rugby season. The Yale Senior Boys Rugby team finished the season with a 10-3 record. They went 4-1 in league play and narrowly lost in the Eastern Valley (EVAA) final. This loss placed them in Tier 2 for the provincials as the #6 seed. The team delivered their best performances of the year at the provincials, securing convincing wins over Mount Boucherie, Riverside, and Abby Senior to claim the Tier 2 championship.
