Abby Senior unveils Rainbow Crosswalk
On June 22, school trustees, district staff, community members, school staff, and students gathered outside Abbotsford Senior Secondary to unveil a newly painted rainbow crosswalk. This student-led initiative has been in the making for over ten years and was constructed through the Panther Pride Club, the school's Gay-Straight-Alliance (GSA).
This is the first rainbow crosswalk installed at an Abbotsford School District site. The freshly painted symbol is one small way the school and district are highlighting efforts to make schools more inclusive, welcoming and safe for students and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
The crosswalk is located directly in front of Abbotsford Senior Secondary and is the main crosswalk leading from the school to the parking lot and sports field. It will be used by many and is a true representation that everyone walks on the same ground and that everyone from all walks of life is welcome.
